Reader Reviews on Robert Yott's Military Narratives
Explore firsthand accounts and critical reflections that highlight the depth and authenticity of Robert Yott’s work on U.S. military and veterans’ history.

Fascinating account of a little known and historically bypassed aspect of the War Between the States. Mr. Yott has once again given to us a well written and researched narrative that explains how powerful individuals can manipulate issues that affect society. The warping of reality to fit an agenda has been ever present thru history but in our time of unparalleled connectivity it has become easier for fear of "threats" to capture our better sensibilities and allow our rights to be compromised. I would recommend this book to any who would be willing to look behind to see ahead. I would give this book five stars but I wished it were longer and I look forward to more works by this gifted historian.

Bob, I received the book. FANTASTIC JOB!! I read my part and started from the beginning. If I see you on Memorial Day, I have a book for you. it's entitled "OPERATION BUFFALO". In your book LCpl Walter Brooks was KIA on 2 July 1967 in Operation Buffalo. This book that I've had for many years because some of the people that were there, I served with. I will let you have it and I assure you it pulls no punches as to what and how it went down. It represents the U.S. Marines at their finest, against all odds.

This work covers the interesting and important topic in a very readable intelligent style. Especially notable is the point in history when a nation initiates the work necessary to begin taking care of its veterans. Before this time the effort had been piecemeal and much of this book relates the creation and implementation of the process necessary to build the infrastructure to give good care to these soldiers. Written in a very engaging way that involves the reader in the minutiae in such a way that on the one hand covers all the important material and on the other hand brings us into the fold and makes one feel the real world importance of making this healing safe haven a reality. This book works well within the framework of several disciplines, covering economic, social, historical, philosophical and personal moral thought. It would be as at home in a classroom context as well as a nightstand or fireplace library.
The excellent choice of photos and personal quotes with interesting anecdotes round out the gripping content. I highly recommend this book; the anthropology is sound and well thought out.
